Looking back on building an agency

Many agency owners begin by doing every task themselves. However, true growth often requires a shift in how you build your team. Liam highlights what he would have done sooner in the early days of TDM: 

  • Hire in-house expertise: Bringing in executives with corporate experience provides a level of structure and professional understanding that most early-stage teams lack.

  • Embrace the learning process: Not every strategy will be efficient from the start. ‘Mistakes’ and moves that are ineffective or inefficient are part of the journey. 

  • Build for the long term: The moment you stop acting like a small startup and start acting like a structured business, your ability to scale increases significantly.

The shift toward AI

There is endless discussion about what AI will impact the most. Liam flags chatting specifically. AI will likely handle a large portion of fan interactions over time. The challenge will be pairing AI with content in a way that still satisfies the customer. 

In the future, speaking directly to a creator could become a ‘premium’ service - whereas speaking to an advertised, labelled AI version of that creator could be offered as a more affordable ‘lite’ option. 

While we are still a step away from full automation for chatting, the industry is moving towards it at speed.
